Stat Pack: 2024 Xfinity Series Ambetter Health 302 Preview

The Xfinity field is very deep on intermediates this year. Who are the favorites?

Stat Pack: 2024 Xfinity Series Ambetter Health 302 Preview

@ Las Vegas Motor Speedway (1.5 mi)

Entry list notes: Notable points ineligible drivers are Daniel Dye in the Kaulig Racing #10, Taylor Gray in the Joe Gibbs Racing #19, and Corey Heim in the Sam Hunt Racing #26.

Picks

In the field, the only drivers who've won an Xfinity intermediate race this season are Justin Allgaier (Darlington), Sam Mayer (Texas), and Aric Almirola (Kansas). While Heim has three intermediate wins in trucks this year, he's been quite poor in his four Xfinity intermediate starts, with an average finish of 21.5.

The best runners (by weighted average running position) on the mile-and-a-halfs this year have been Allgaier, Cole Custer, Chandler Smith, and Austin Hill. As I rattle off statistical leaders, you'll notice that the names don't change much.

  • Best average finish: Almirola, Custer, Hill, Chandler Smith
  • Best net rating (GR-LR): Allgaier, Almirola, Mayer, Hill, Custer
  • Top fives: Custer with five, then Mayer, Chandler Smith, and Hill each have three
  • Top tens: Hill and Custer both have six, then Jesse Love and Allgaier both have five

This leaves us with an obvious handful of drivers. My ordering:

  1. Justin Allgaier
  2. Cole Custer
  3. Austin Hill
  4. Chandler Smith

Gap.

  1. Aric Almirola
  2. Sam Mayer

An unsorted next tier would include Love, AJ Allmendinger, Brandon Jones, Riley Herbst, and Ryan Sieg.
