NASCAR broadcasts can be infuriating. They will assert a driver is talented or discuss driver scouting, but I've never heard them define what driver skill is. Because of this blindness, Lap Raptor endeavors simply to proxy driver skill through increasingly narrow metrics, and this will continue to be my mission until it becomes obvious what it means to be a skillful driver. This race was a star in the night sky.
Kyle Busch took the win for Spire Motorsports with a turn-four side draft on Stewart Friesen. It was a clear and obvious example of superior driver skill. Busch did not panic when Friesen took the lead, sidled up next to the 52, drew him back, and won the race by a few feet. Busch even suggested in his broadcast interview post-race that there were a number of areas that the younger drivers could learn from his performance. I'd love for those to be enumerated.
